At the same EISA event Sigma were awarded for their 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG IF HSM lens which has won the “European Lens 2009-2010” title. Well done Sigma who often lead the way in flying the flag for the independent lens manufacturers.
This range of focal lengths has in the last couple of years become the new ‘standard zoom’, which actually works quiet well for many photographers regardless of using FX or DX format capture. The fast f/2.8 aperture is useful, not just for when you must shoot wide open for limited depth-of-field, but also for lower light levels helping autofocus and or manual focus accuracy. This lens or Nikons 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor find its way into many pro and enthusiast kit bags.
