Canon has today issued a statement detailing the delays to a number of lenses planned for release, but now later than originally anticipated.
This is no great surprise for them, or any manufacturer on the back of the terrible events in Japan recently, if those have logically had a role to play.
However, this is not the first time Canon – or others have had to issue such a statement about items arriving late – compared to the fanfare date when they were announced. I sometimes wonder if those dates quoted, are done so because a company has to say something that is not too far ahead when they make the initial announcement. Conversely, it is often good for PR to announce some things if it is a while till the next big news story. This is not a Canon only issue so let us not single them out. In fact, they should be commended as other companies can say little or nothing and leave the end user hanging on.
That said, as a photographer the last thing I want are ‘issues’ because designs and or manufacturing have not been given sufficient attention. And while some enthusiasts seem driven by a passion and energy, that can make ‘yesterday’ too late, most people I think understand and appreciate being kept informed. All are ‘L’ series pro optics.
