People often ask me about the equipment I choose to work with. My choice of lighting depends on the work at hand, logistics budget, time and other factors of course. But as many know, I utalise both portable flash and studio lighting consistently during each month, working both in studios and on location. In fact I see them as one and the same… lighting tools, so I don’t really sit on either side of the fence as such, but see and use them in similar ways most of the time, but also for their unique strengths when required. My most recent addition for both however is one of Profoto’s new RFi 3ft Octa Softboxes.

This is one of those product lines that just seems to tick logical boxes. By choosing the right adapter to attach them to, you can use the products across twenty or so lighting brands from Profoto’s own kit, through popular and less well known studio brands, to Canon and Nikon or other ‘hotshoe’ fitting flashes. For the latter it gives me alternative or supplementary options to the Rogue and Lastolite products I often use. And of course, should you ever change your lighting brand, the investment in softboxes does not become a waste of time if you can buy an adapater for the brand you move to.
